“Hernandez Construction is absolutely first rate. They recently remodeled the primary bathroom of the redwood Craftsman home designed and hand built by my late husband. We needed a master builder we could trust. Manuel Hernandez is just such a builder, and everyone who works for him shares his work ethic and his attention to craft and detail. He worked closely and patiently with my architect, and with me, to make sure the design was executed perfectly, while meeting the functional and aesthetic demands of the space. The team protected all areas of the house impacted by construction meticulously, and left the site clean at the end of each day. Manuel and his team demonstrated great respect for materials and craftsmanship, both existing and new, resulting in a bathroom that is beautiful, functional, and in perfect harmony with the rest of the house.     “We hired Manuel and his crew to finish a project where we converted our former laundry room into a nursery. This involved rebuilding walls with new pocket doors, electrical work, and paint. The end result is very high quality, and they did especially well coordinating with us through a complicated schedule and work environment, including COVID precautions, two adults working from home, and a deadline to finish before the baby arrived. The price was very reasonable as well. Highly recommended.”

    He’s worked on multiple projects for us since 2001, including major structural restoration on a 1927 Berkeley home with water and rot damage. Manuel and his team carefully brought sections down to the studs and restored the framing and details, including replacing 15+ windows. Their work gave us confidence and peace of mind because they clearly knew exactly what they were doing.

    More recently, they’ve helped us remodel a Bay Area home with extensive upgrades including French doors, skylights, vaulted ceilings, electrical, plumbing, a large deck, outdoor structures, and fencing with retaining walls.

  • Fireplace Remodel with Custom Built-Ins and Stonework

    “We hired Hernandez Construction to completely replace an old traditional wood fireplace and wall with a new gas insert, new wall, and custom finishes. The job included removing a 15-foot marble wall and bench and replacing it with smooth drywall, paint, electrical work, and custom walnut storage benches with soft-close hardware, plus granite stone in front of the fireplace.

    Not only was the work beautiful, but Manuel, Sandrita, and the crew were incredibly professional, on time, reasonably priced, and kept the job site very clean and safe—which was important to us since we have young kids.
